So why the need for a men’s only health, fitness and weight management service?

The problem is that there are more overweight or obese men (67%) than women (58%) in the country, and that there doesn’t appear to be enough support aimed specifically for men to help them lose weight and get fitter. Did you know that:

  • There are over 20 million overweight men in the UK.  This means that in Gloucester City alone, around 20, 000 men are overweight or obese
  • On average, around a third of adult men don’t do enough physical activity to maintain their health
  • Being obese accounts for between 80% – 85% of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and gives you a higher risk of getting heart disease and some cancers
  • Depending on the severity, life expectancy in obese individuals can be reduced by an average of 3 to 10 years

We know that when it comes to being healthier, losing some weight and getting fitter, men often tend to think and act differently from women. Men who are struggling with their weight or fitness and all of the health and personal issues that it brings often say to us ……

‘I just want to be fitter, lose some weight, get in shape, but don’t want to do it by feeling hungry all the time, having to count calories or by making a fool of myself. I just want the facts about what I need to do, a bit of guidance and support on how to do it, be somewhere where I’m not judged, be myself, have a bit of a laugh and be with people like me.’
